Europe: Italy

Venice, Burano, Murano, Torcello

I have never been more in awe of a culture, or more scared of birds in my whole life.

Venice is a northeastern city in Italy that lies in the Venetian Lagoon in the Adriatic Sea. To put that into perspective, imagine flying into the nearest airport and then taking a bus or water taxi towards the island(s) of Venice.

When we walked off the bus (as well as the water taxi) we saw walkways of cobblestone in every direction, bridges over canals connecting the walkways, and no cars. As we walked down the cobblestone walkways we saw fine dining, small pizza by the slice areas, and shoppes both low and high end...but to no avail could we find our hotel!!

Imagine seeing two small filipino girls with a medium sized luggage trying to navigate through corridors, up and down canal bridges, looking for a small sign for our hotel. At one point we even took turns while one person searched, and the other sat on a bridge with the luggage. Such an adventure already! It's a good thing we love it.

My advice to you. PACK LIGHT.

After finding our hotel room (which just so happened to be on the opposite side of that Pizza place we were looking at!) and getting settled, we headed out. Wandering, eating, taking in the culture and the sights was amazing.

I love the architecture of the buildings and the churches. Honestly, there were so many different churches and chapels, I almost got lost because I thought one was the other! The most famous area was St. Mark's Square which included the beautiful St. Mark's Basilica, gelato shoppes, mesmerizing architecture, tourists, and...Birds. LOTS of birds. Please PLEASE do not be that tourist that puts bird food in their hands. They WILL attack you. -_- My Ornithophobia could not handle that.

From the main island of Venice, you're able to take a boat ride towards the smaller islands; Murano, Burano, and Torcello. Each of these sub-islands have a style and architecture of their own. The small towns there are just as beautiful and provide you with insight on their main careers, sub culture, and way of living.

Let me tell you. This trip was full of beauty, wonders, culture shock, birds, good food and great company. Photos Below:
